Clarification on Misleading Information

Genepic misusing the name of Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital

With reference to the recent article released by Unity Research in collaboration with Dr Amir Farid Isahak and Dr Lee Chui Ai on the product GenEpic, Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital would like to make clear the following:

  1. There was no clinical study or research done at Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital by Unity Research on GenEpic.
  2. Dr Amir Farid Isahak and Dr Lee Chui Ai were not accredited or authorised to carry out any research with our doctors on our patients at Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital.
  3. We at Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital are involved in cancer studies, clinical trials and medical research work with international research organisations with informed written consent from patients based on Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and rules, but there was no such clinical study conducted with Unity Research.

We strongly request that the party concerned cease using our Hospital’s name without our permission and render an apology to us for misleading the public and misusing our name, failing which we will be compelled to take further action to protect our interest.  We will also bring this matter to the attention of the appropriate authorities, including the Ministry of Health.

Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital has pioneered the tradition of serving the community as a non-profit Catholic Hospital, founded by the Franciscan Missionaries of Divine Motherhood nuns, to serve all persons regardless of nationality, race, belief or income, focused on cancer care and treatment in Penang since 1976.
