Cancer care involves more than medical treatment alone.
At Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital, patients and families have access to practical and supportive services designed to help make their time with us a little easier, from nutritional guidance and medication support to spaces for rest, prayer and reflection.
Dietetics & Nutrition
Good nutrition can be especially important during cancer treatment. Changes in appetite, taste, weight and the ability to eat comfortably can make it difficult for some patients to maintain the nutrition they need.
Mount Miriam’s Oncology Dietitian provides individual nutritional support according to each patient’s condition, treatment and dietary needs.
Support may include guidance for patients experiencing:
- poor appetite or difficulty eating;
- unintentional weight loss;
- nausea or other treatment-related eating difficulties;
- changes in taste;
- difficulty meeting calorie, protein or fluid requirements; or
- other nutritional challenges during treatment.

Pharmacy

Our Pharmacy team works closely with Mount Miriam’s clinical team to support the medication needs of patients receiving care at the hospital.
Pharmacists dispense medications prescribed by our Clinical Oncologists and are also involved in the preparation and reconstitution of cytotoxic medicines used for chemotherapy treatment. MMCH’s current Pharmacy information identifies both medication dispensing and cytotoxic-drug reconstitution as core responsibilities of the team.
If you have questions about medication prescribed as part of your treatment, please speak to your healthcare team.
Clinical Pastoral Care
Cancer can affect more than a person’s physical health. Patients and families may also experience emotional and spiritual concerns throughout diagnosis, treatment and other stages of care.
Mount Miriam’s Clinical Pastoral Care reflects our commitment to caring for the whole person. The team provides a ministry of presence and support to patients and families who wish to receive it.
Pastoral support is offered with respect for each person’s individual beliefs and needs.
