Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital shares in the worldwide Mission of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM), whose healthcare ministry has served communities in different parts of the world for generations.
In Southeast Asia, this Mission is also reflected in the work of Mount Alvernia Hospital and Assisi Hospice in Singapore.
Although each organisation serves its own community and areas of healthcare, we share a common heritage rooted in the FMDM commitment to compassionate care, respect for the dignity of every person, and service to those in need.

MOUNT ALVERNIA HOSPITAL
Mount Alvernia Hospital was founded by the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) and officially opened in Singapore on 4 March 1961 with 60 beds. The hospital was initially staffed entirely by professionally trained FMDM Sisters, who served in roles including nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, radiography and laboratory services.
Today, Mount Alvernia Hospital continues this healthcare Mission as a not-for-profit general acute tertiary care private hospital, guided by its commitment to compassionate and holistic care. Its FMDM heritage remains an important part of its identity, with Clinical Pastoral Care also forming part of the support provided to patients and families.

ASSISI HOSPICE
Assisi Hospice was founded by the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) in 1969. Its beginnings can be traced to the Khoo Block at Mount Alvernia Hospital, which was established to care for chronically ill patients. Over the years, its work evolved towards dedicated palliative and hospice care.
Today, Assisi Hospice is a Catholic charity providing compassionate and personalised palliative care to adults and children with life-limiting illnesses through inpatient, home and day care services. Its work continues the FMDM tradition of caring for people who are sick and vulnerable with dignity, compassion and respect.
United by a Shared Mission
Although Mount Miriam, Mount Alvernia Hospital and Assisi Hospice serve different healthcare needs and communities, each traces its work to the same FMDM calling to care for those who are sick and vulnerable.
At Mount Miriam, that Mission continues through our work as a not-for-profit specialist cancer hospital, serving patients and families with compassion, respect and integrity.
